It’s officially Spring in Missoula, and while we’re all itching to get outside, navigating pet-friendly events can be a bit like herding cats. Between health department rules at the markets and shifting event dates, it helps to have a game plan.
Whether you want to watch high-level agility or just find a spot for a quiet stroll, here is what’s happening for pets and their people in Zootown this month.

🌲 Trails to Hit This Month
May is the perfect time to focus on our local trails before the summer heat really kicks in. Check out our latest post about pet friendly hikes, off leash and where to leash up here
Blue Mountain: Always a Missoula favorite if you want a hike that feels like its in a dog park! Off leash is welcome but remember to be respectful of other hikers and always leash up your dog if you come across a horse and rider (even if you dog will mind its manners this helps the horses and their riders stay calm and safe). The lower loops are clear of snow and perfect for a long morning hike. Just remember to pack the bear spray and do a thorough tick check when you get back to the car, they are out in full force this month!
Jacob’s Island: The river is too high so please be so careful letting your dog run toward open water, the currents are too fast and they will get swept under.
The Rattlesnake Trails: Want a beautiful hike of some of the most amazing wild flowers? Check out any of the rattlesnake hikes and be amazed! Pay attention to leash laws, some areas are not off leash friendly at the start of hikes!
Pro-Tip: Be a "Good Neighbor"
As the town gets busier, let’s keep Missoula pet-friendly by keeping those leashes on in crowded areas and always picking up after our furry companions. Happy Spring, Missoula!
